We are celebrating 30 years in business. What do three decades of innovation say about an organisation? How have they shaped our DNA? And how does this help improve our customers’ operations, now more than ever? IT keeps evolving, and AMIS keeps pace. Explore our innovative solutions through the years: Business Driven, Data Enabled, Performance Improvement.
Software supplier
AMIS was founded in Enschede in 1991 with the ambition of recording aircraft maintenance and optimising its administration. The software was put into use, but unfortunately never reached a wider market. AMIS had to reinvent itself. Its first transformation was from software supplier to IT service provider, drawing on practical expertise in Oracle Forms and databases. Over the years, AMIS built innovative systems, including solutions to optimise DHL’s logistics in the Netherlands and Germany.
AMIS and Oracle
AMIS grew by working in data-intensive environments: organisations with large volumes or a wide variety of data. AMIS had close ties with Oracle, as both companies served the same target market. AMIS closely followed the introduction of newly developed or integrated technologies on the Oracle platform.
Years of success
Over the years, more and more organisations brought IT in-house, making it commonplace. Providing specialist knowledge and expertise increasingly took precedence over project delivery. During this period, AMIS was the leading Oracle technology specialist in the Netherlands. We won numerous awards, including five Partner of the Year awards, one at EMEA level, as well as community and speaker awards. These achievements were partly thanks to 15 years of collective knowledge and expertise shared through our Technology Blog, which receives more than a million visits annually. AMIS colleagues also wrote six books and spoke at numerous national and international conferences.
As complexity increased, waterfall projects gave way to Agile and Scrum. In 2012, AMIS certified all its employees in Agile because we believe in the power of collaboration. This created more direct and flexible communication with the business and within our multidisciplinary teams.
Technology-shift
The rise of cloud and integration technology brought a major shift in our field: from best-of-suite to best-of-breed. Rather than routinely choosing Oracle or another major provider, organisations began looking at the unique value each component could add to their IT infrastructure. This increases business resilience and agility. We also see businesses placing greater demands on IT. Certain IT limitations are no longer accepted, and adding more products or services from an existing supplier is no longer the default choice. Organisations are using this technological shift as an opportunity to rethink their entire IT architecture. AMIS responds by embracing multiple technologies and finding the best possible solutions to organisations’ needs.
IT keeps evolving
These developments further increase the complexity of IT itself. Today’s IT environments use more components and cloud services than ever before, and organisations’ IT departments are feeling the impact. Keeping up has become increasingly difficult, partly because of the sheer number of existing systems built on older technology, and partly because of the growing variety of technologies and tools used to build new systems or connect existing ones. Adding expertise to an internal department is often no longer enough. There is also growing demand for partners who take responsibility. AMIS is evolving in response. Today, most of our work involves taking full or shared responsibility. We work with a wide range of organisations that recognise the importance of effective IT support, focusing on improving business performance.
Connect, Synergise, Advance
AMIS connects the physical and digital worlds: organisations become more effective when they can use the data available from sensors and machines, particularly when it can be combined with information from internal and external applications and data sources. We call this Integrated Internet of Things, or I-IoT.
AMIS connects applications and data sources: combining data and adding context creates value. This synergy produces actionable information and enables the integrated use of available data, preventing duplicate work and conflicting versions of the truth. Fact-based working starts with a clearly defined source and the correct distribution of data across IT systems.
AMIS connects today’s operations with the future: IT is costly and must deliver business value, helping you move forward both now and in the future. We therefore focus on agility and resilience in day-to-day use. We provide IT systems that continue to deliver value functionally, technically and economically.
What does AMIS do today?
Today, we put this into practice through IoT projects for organisations including Eriks and Eneco. We work in the insurance sector with Stichting CIS and Aplaza, and in the food sector with GD, CRV and Nutreco. We also provide continuous services to organisations such as ProRail, NS, Feenstra, Brocacef, Juva, the Municipality of Amsterdam and many others. Many have been customers for years, a clear sign of the mutual value of these relationships. We build knowledge through our experiences and share it with others. We also remain open to the new possibilities technology enables and the opportunities they create. This allows us to keep improving our customers’ businesses. This is 30 years of innovation, driven by data and IT.
