AMIS Conclusion has worked with its customer to develop a monitoring system that uses sensor data and analytics to assess the condition of a pumping system.
For many manufacturing companies, the availability of a pumping system to move liquids is essential to their operations. Pumps are used to supply and discharge liquids during production, or to provide water for cooling or heating. If such an installation fails and brings production to a halt, the resulting damage can be substantial. A technician needs to attend, often outside normal working hours. Expensive components must be replaced, and some production is lost.
Remotely assessing the condition
AMIS Conclusion has worked with its customer to develop a monitoring system that uses sensor data and analytics to assess the condition of a pumping system. We were able to distinguish between different operating conditions with 98% accuracy: normal operation, cavitation, misalignment, poor efficiency and vibration at the foundation. We achieve this by processing data from the pumping system locally on an edge computer. Data on vibration, power consumption, temperature and flow is fed into a model that compares it against a benchmark. The results of this analysis are presented to the asset manager through a dashboard.
The right technician on site in time
With this solution, we can predict when a system needs maintenance. This allows the asset manager to plan maintenance more effectively and reduces unexpected downtime. The analysis also helps ensure that a technician with the right expertise is sent to the site. Aligning a bearing requires different expertise from securing the system to its foundation. The result: higher availability and lower maintenance costs.
