Junior Platform Consultant Kishen Ramkhelawan: “There are always opportunities at AMIS Conclusion, even if you want to take a different direction.”
Kishen Ramkhelawan joined AMIS Conclusion on 1 March 2023. After completing a degree in ICT at a university of applied sciences and working as an Implementation Consultant for several years, it was time to move from Suriname to the Netherlands. As a Junior Platform Consultant at AMIS Conclusion, he has found his place. Kishen says: “My colleagues gave me a warm welcome. AMIS Conclusion is a great team with an open culture, good communication and plenty of flexibility.”
From Suriname to the Netherlands for the next career step
After working in Suriname for several years, Kishen decided to explore opportunities in the Netherlands. He explains: “I felt it was time for something new. With my ICT degree and knowledge of business–IT alignment, AMIS Conclusion was an immediate match. Conversations with other companies in the Netherlands suggested they were less open to recruiting people from abroad, but that was no problem at AMIS Conclusion. Here, it is actively welcomed.”
“On my first day at AMIS Conclusion, I was warmly welcomed with a large bouquet of flowers and introduced to everyone. That was lovely and a new experience for me. The office atmosphere in Suriname is different. There is a much more top-down structure, whereas AMIS Conclusion has a flat, informal organisational structure with little hierarchy. I really appreciate that.”
Opportunities and flexibility at AMIS Conclusion
Kishen started as a Junior Platform Operations Consultant, focusing on the operational aspects of a platform. After around three months, he realised that this was not where his interests lay. Through regular contact with his People Manager, Gerard van den Broek, he was able to choose a different direction.
Kishen explains: “My People Manager has supported me from the very beginning. He understands that I have moved from another country and left my friends and family behind to work here. We therefore have a catch-up every two weeks to discuss how I am doing. When it became clear that the work did not quite suit me, changing direction was no problem. I moved into a Junior Platform Consultant role with a stronger focus on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and I really enjoy it. This shows how important good communication is. If you do not talk about something, you cannot change it.”
Taking part in the junior development programme and specialist group sessions
There are clearly plenty of opportunities at AMIS Conclusion. Kishen participates in the junior development programme, a modular training programme combining internal and external courses tailored to personal development and project assignments. Kishen says: “I have already attended several sessions and learn something every time. It is an enjoyable, diverse group of colleagues. Although we are all juniors, our ages and backgrounds vary, creating an interesting mix. AMIS Conclusion also organises monthly specialist group sessions, where members can share their expertise and learn from one another.”
He continues: “There is plenty of guidance and always someone willing to listen. Recently, we had a meeting where we could openly discuss how we experience our workload. It shows that your opinion as an employee really matters. I value that personal attention enormously, and it is something I would highlight to anyone considering joining AMIS Conclusion.”
AMIS Conclusion in three words
Asked which three words he would use to describe AMIS Conclusion, Kishen chooses culture, communication and flexibility. He explains: “At AMIS Conclusion, every employee has a voice and is free to express their opinion. Whoever you are and whoever you are speaking to, you have room to question things. I find that very valuable. The company is also flexible, and colleagues are always willing to help. They are busy, but whenever I ask for help, I always get it, usually the same day!”
