“No two days are the same at AMIS Conclusion”

Herbert Coenen:

Wanting to bring more technical depth to his work, Herbert Coenen joined AMIS Conclusion just over a year ago. With more than three decades of experience in IT and ERP, he recognised the growing importance of integrating different IT systems. As a Principal Consultant, he now works on these integrations every day. Herbert says: “It is anything but routine work, which makes every day enjoyable, educational and challenging.”

Integrating IT systems: a complex puzzle

Explaining his choice of AMIS Conclusion, Herbert says: “What really attracted me was the technical side of IT. How do you connect separate islands of systems effectively? No single solution covers the entire IT landscape, so the challenge lies in integration. I was also excited by AMIS Conclusion’s sustainability projects. I have been part of the Eneco project for a year now. Controlling wind and solar farms really captures the imagination, and I was immediately keen to get started.”

The freedom to connect and take initiative

Herbert gets the most energy from sharing knowledge and collaborating with colleagues. “With a mix of junior, mid-level and senior colleagues in our organisation, we place great value on sharing knowledge. I enjoy helping junior colleagues get started and showing them that there may be more possibilities than they initially realise. The inspiring ideas that emerge during projects give me energy. I approach challenges primarily from a functional perspective, thinking about the ‘why’ before the ‘how’. Developing solutions together with colleagues is what makes my work so engaging.”

“I have also recently started setting up a new professional group focused on business analysis. I did not feel that any existing group quite matched my interests. After a good conversation with our Business Director, Etienne, who encouraged me to find out whether others felt the same, I asked a few colleagues for their views. It turned out that several of them also wanted a group covering this subject.”

“What I appreciate is that I receive both inspiration and the support and opportunity to develop an initiative like this. And it goes beyond encouragement: AMIS Conclusion regularly sets aside time to develop these kinds of ideas and initiatives.”

Personal attention in a growing organisation

This has a positive effect on the culture, Herbert explains. “I have always preferred a smaller working environment where personal attention and a family atmosphere come first. Despite now having more than a hundred employees, AMIS Conclusion has managed to retain that atmosphere. I put this down to its flat organisational structure and small management team.”

“This structure, which I find distinctive, separates people management from business management. You have two lines of contact: your functional manager and your people manager, who focuses on your ambitions and development. This creates a relaxed atmosphere for open conversations, which I really appreciate.”

Exchanging ideas within the Conclusion ecosystem

Alongside AMIS Conclusion colleagues, employees also gain colleagues from other companies within the Conclusion ecosystem. “Conclusion recently organised an inspiration session on sustainable IT. How do you approach it, and what can you already do as an organisation? I found that very inspiring. During sessions like these, you meet people from other parts of the ecosystem and hear about their work. That is enjoyable, because I might be able to involve them in something, or we might be able to help them strengthen their relationship with a customer. I think the way Conclusion facilitates this knowledge sharing is very special. As an AMIS Conclusion employee, you are free to seek out that knowledge whenever you want, without any obligation.”

Learning by doing

Asked to describe his experience at AMIS Conclusion in three words, Herbert answers immediately: “First: challenging! No two days are the same, and the work is anything but routine. An assignment starts from scratch, which means continually exploring functional requirements and possibilities.”

His second word is trust. “You are trusted to do things yourself, and you either succeed or learn. There is no real sense of failure. I would also describe AMIS Conclusion as welcoming. You join a family where everyone is open and enthusiastic. I really appreciate that: you feel like one of the team straight away.”
