Oracle Cloud Native Application Development Meetup Recap

News

Last Monday, AMIS hosted and organised the Oracle Cloud Native Application Development Meetup. More than 30 internal and external IT professionals worked together using the latest technology. We believe it is important to train people in the latest tools, both to develop our own expertise and, above all, to help customers innovate with purpose.

No more “button-clicking training”

Custom applications have always been around. You want to give people in your organisation the best possible support in their work. You also want to provide customers and supply chain partners with the information they need and involve them in your processes.

However, our expectations of applications have changed. We expect much more from the user experience. Applications take many forms, from automated forms to chatbots and all kinds of data visualisations. Behind the scenes, we expect intelligent calculations, combinations, suggestions and even predictions. And, of course, applications must be fast, intuitive to use (when did you last need ‘button-clicking training’?), always available and secure.

"We expect intelligent calculations, combinations and even predictions. And it must be fast, intuitive and always available."

Through the car wash

The possibilities offered by today’s technology have also changed. We can optimise how we use it, which can make a considerable difference, especially in the cloud. By making smart use of a mature cloud environment, such as Oracle or Microsoft Azure, your applications can scale their infrastructure usage. They can use more capacity when needed and consume nothing when there is no demand. This reduces operating costs under pricing models where you pay for what you use.

Applications have been around for decades, which means many older applications are still in use. Some still run in an organisation’s own or rented data centre. Others are put through a ‘car wash’ to make them available in the cloud. But are they also optimised for cloud use? Is your IT department or IT partner thinking about this?

"By making smart use of a mature cloud environment, such as Oracle or Microsoft Azure, your applications can scale their infrastructure usage to match demand."

Knowing what you’re talking about

To make the most of technology and maximise the return on development and operating costs, you need to know what is possible. That is why we are always working on innovation at AMIS. Advancing our knowledge, modernising IT platforms and developing applications. And we are happy to share that knowledge. That is why, last Monday, we hosted and led the ‘Oracle Cloud Native Application Development’ Meetup. More than 30 IT professionals worked together using the latest technology.

Different types of storage, serverless functions, events and streaming, and active monitoring are just some of the capabilities available in Oracle’s cloud environment. Used wisely, they can deliver considerable value.

Knowing what you are talking about is the foundation. Knowing what you can do with it helps you move forward. Knowing what you want to achieve gives you direction. Taking practical action brings you closer to realising your ambitions. Lower costs, greater output, fewer outages, easier working for employees and supply chain partners, and more opportunities to stand out from the competition.

"Knowing what you are talking about is the foundation. Knowing what you can do with it helps you move forward. Knowing what you will achieve with it gives you direction."

At AMIS, we believe in the power of connected IT to help organisations move forward. That is why we train our people in the latest tools, experiment to build knowledge and work with customers on purposeful innovation. To challenge, develop and support both our customers and ourselves.
