Taking control of message traffic

Making a difference in a project that had, so to speak, been sketched out ‘on the back of a beer mat’. Jacco shaped and developed the project at Aplaza to give them control over notifications about messages ready for retrieval. “Aplaza provides a platform for communication between insurers and intermediaries. The advantage of such a platform is that intermediaries can entrust their automation to a single provider. In this project, I wrote the software that enables messages to be retrieved automatically and delivered to the intermediary or insurer. Aplaza wanted to offer a standalone platform, including the messaging service. In this project, I wrote the software that enables notifications to be retrieved automatically from a third party and delivered to the intermediary or insurer. A project with a major impact for the client, giving them full control over message traffic.”

Making a difference for Aplaza

“The project at Aplaza consisted of several phases. After clarifying all the requirements, the first step was to build a notification server on the Microsoft Azure platform: a piece of software that retrieves and delivers all notifications. One of the initial tasks was setting up and testing the connections. We are currently in the acceptance phase. Intermediaries will soon be able to connect their software to Aplaza and reach the server I built. The challenge? The intermediaries’ existing technology that I had to work with. Those software packages had to keep working, and getting that integration right was a challenging task. The biggest challenge, however, was having to carry out most of this project independently. Looking back, I am very pleased with the final result.”

Room for development and new technologies

“The market is changing, and we are changing with it as an organisation. The cloud emerged, and AMIS started exploring other technologies. Microsoft Azure is the cloud computing platform we now focus on to a considerable extent. New solutions and capabilities are constantly being added to this platform. We look at the changing market and adopt what is relevant. Personally, that is what I enjoy most; software development has always been my great passion. At AMIS, and in my projects, I can fully express that passion. We are always working to improve our knowledge and skills. We do this, for example, by taking part in Special Interest Groups, including those focused on Java. We also actively organise presentations, workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions. I am currently working on a presentation about Kotlin, for example, which is seen as the modern Java.”
